BENEFITS OF FLUID USE ENVIROTEMP FR3 IN TRANSFORMERS AND ELECTRIC SUBESTATIONS
Cooper Power Systems fabricated the dielectric oil Envirotemp FR3, a refrigerant dielectric fluid that resist the fire force with natural oil. Some industry distributors already use it. It is used to apply it on distribution and power transformers.
Some of the characteristics of dielectric oil Envirotemp FR3:
The combustion point in 360º, more than mineral oil, R-Temp and Silicone. This guarantees the highest security against fire and the capacity to avoid building fire barriers or fire extinguishing system in the use of transformers, according to the norm IEC 61936, NBR 13231 or FM 5-4.
With a base of vegetal oils of seeds and soya, Envirotemp FR3 oil is not bio accumulative neither toxic, being tested the toxicity level with results of 0 mortality, and it does not attack environment, it is completely biodegraded in soil and water in 43 days. It suites the requirements of ISO 14000/18000.
Moreover, with the use of fluid Envirotemp FR3 in the transformers and electric substations, it is not necessary the use of fluid containment systems.
The water saturation point is 1057 ppm, more than mineral oil that is 70 ppm. It reaches a dielectric rigidness of 36 kV up to 550 ppm of water. Because of this, the number of interventions for the treatment of oil is reduced, and hence, the risk of formation of bubbles in transformers is reduced too.
Dielectric oil Environtemp FR3 is impregnated in paper cellulose of transformers and it raises insulation time of those, according to the studies realized by the company, Cooper Power systems. This and other applications of dielectric oil Envirotemp FR3 offer several possibilities in transformers business:
- Re-potentiation and increase of useful life of transformers, as it was demonstrated in transformers of more than 50 years of life that by using dielectric oil Envirotemp FR3 the life was extended for 10 years more. Similar tests are being realized in Brasil.
- Increase of Power and reduce of size: We can work with a more elevated temperature, without varying the useful life of the system. (65ºC transformers can work with class 85ºC and transformers 55ºC can work with class 75ºC). This allows an increment of the power of transformers between 15 and 20% or the reduction of the size maintaining the power.
- Ecological transformers: They use vegetal fluid and it resists high temperatures, this is the reason why localized transformers have different uses near: subterraneous mines, supermarkets, maritime platforms, protection areas, electric cells, undergrounds, buildings, public places, fields, rivers, shopping centres, etc.
